As a photographer, I'm always on the lookout for new and fun spots near me, whether for a specific shoot or to save away for the future.
Like you, I've spent much time searching for "Utah photography locations," only to find the same 24 Google-suggested spots. Instead of settling for those suggestions as my only options, I decided to get creative. I went through list after list, explored on my own, and took matters into my own hands to create my comprehensive location list! I hope you find it helpful!
Utah County
AAA Lakeside Storage
Address: 4095 W Center St, Provo, UT 84601
Say hello to Provo's most eclectic photography spot, which also happens to be a storage facility! They do charge a photography fee of $25 for every group of 10 people. In exchange, we'll capture unique and exciting images that you won’t find anywhere else!
They request that visits take place during office hours, which are Monday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Just a quick heads-up—there isn’t a bathroom for changing, so please plan ahead! And don’t forget to check out the photography agreement linked here.
Alpine Scenic Loop In American Fork Canyon
Address: Alpine Loop Scenic Byway, Provo, UT 84604
This scenic drive takes almost an hour and connects American Fork Canyon to Provo Canyon. There are several great spots to pull off and take photos of the aspens and mountain views along the winding roads.
Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point
Address: 3900 N. Garden Drive Lehi, Utah 84043
Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point offers a serene setting featuring 2 miles of brick pathways that connect 15 cultivated gardens, lawns, and waterfalls. The gardens showcase stunning floral displays and beautiful brick architecture. If you visit at the right time, you might also experience the tulip festival.
There is a $20 entrance fee for this location. As of March 2025, Photography sessions require the purchase of a Thanksgiving Point Photo Pass. Here's a quick synopsis of what you can find on their site:

Anderson Park Wilderness Area

This park is one of my favorite places to photograph in the spring and summer due to its beautiful blossoms! It features charming bridges, ample greenery, and small streams, offering so much to capture and explore. Additionally, there is plenty of parking available, and best of all, it’s free!

Do you love the natural vibe? The area above the Aspen Grove campground parking lot could be perfect for you, offering options for both snowy engagements and sunny mountain portraits. There may be a fee required at this location.
Bridal Veil Falls

A quick detour on your way up Provo Canyon leads you to the stunning Bridal Veil waterfall, which is conveniently located near the highway. The area features a paved trail and a picnic area with tables. As you walk along the trail, you'll find numerous opportunities to capture the perfect pictures you've been wanting.

BYU Campus & Duck Pond

The BYU campus, particularly the duck pond, is a popular spot for BYU graduation photos, but it is also great for other types of portraits. You will find lush greenery, shady areas, unique architecture, stone pathways, and of course, the duck pond.
Cascade Springs
Address: Cascade Scenic Dr, Provo, UT 84604
The area has easy boardwalk trails, benches, and bridges that provide excellent views of its attractions, including good spots for trout sightings. Some trails are accessible for individuals with disabilities. Interpretive signs enhance the experience, and restrooms along with drinking water are available. A parking fee of $6 is required.

Castle Amphitheater

Did you know there’s a castle in Provo? This photoshoot location looks like it’s straight out of a fairytale! Please note that the hospital that owns the property charges a $20 fee. For updated photography policies, be sure to contact the hospital.
As of March 2025: State agencies, the general public, and USH employees can reserve and use the facilities, including the amphitheater and the grounds/orchards, for photos. For more information or to make a reservation, please contact the Support Services Department at 801-344-4740.
Cook's Farm and Greenhouse

If you’re seeking colorful, vibrant, or maybe even tropical photos in Utah, Cooks Greenhouse and Farm in Orem is an ideal location. The best part is that this venue is open year-round. Please note that there is a fee for taking photos at Cook's. Make sure to contact them before your photoshoot to confirm the pricing.
Downtown Provo
If you're searching for an urban location, my top choice is Downtown Provo. It’s filled with historic architecture, interesting lighting, and colorful murals, making it perfect for a photoshoot. Here are some great parking garages to consider as starting points:

Kyhv Peak Lookout Point (formerly Squaw Peak)

The lower parking lot at Kyhv Peak offers some of the best views and photo opportunities of Provo Canyon. This location is conveniently situated just a few miles from the city, providing a stunning mountain vista as a backdrop. To reach the parking lot, drive up Provo Canyon for about three miles. When you see the signage, turn right. Follow the road, and when you reach a fork, continue to the right. There is ample parking available, regardless of which lot you choose!

Pine Hollow Trailhead

Beautiful views of American Fork Canyon. Tons of trees and greenery. Pets are welcome here on a leash. This location is best in the evening – very close to sunset. This location is best in the Summer and Fall.
Poppy Fields in Alpine

Provo City Library

Don't be fooled. This historic building makes for far more interesting photos than your average library. The Provo Library features a glass archway, large brick architecture, and a quaint art gallery. This is all available for free. Contact the library with your specific questions about photography here and for the latest policies.
Red Ledges

Meet the location for red rock without the drive to Southern Utah! There are several interesting spots here for portraits and the red rocks look stunning as a contrast to white wedding dresses — all of this without a hike.
Rock Canyon Trailhead

Natural beauty with gorgeous canyon views as well as city views. Greenery, shrubs, and trails. This location is best in the mornings or evenings. This location is good any time of year.
Santaquin Canyon

Welcome to your quiet mountain area where you can take portraits without competing with dozens of other couples and photographers. Santaquin Canyon has loads of pretty areas up and down the road to pull off and snap portraits. This looks great year-round, but Fall is especially beautiful!
The Shops at Riverwoods

These shops feature adorable indoor and outdoor places to photograph including a few Instagrammable murals. Provo Beach Ice Cream has an especially cute interior. There's also a walking trail that goes all the way around for quick transitions from nature to urban vibes.

Shoreline Park

Beautiful views of the mountains and lake. Small pond near with trees and a beach. Pets are welcome here on a leash. This location is best in the evening, near sunset. This location is best in the Summer and Fall.
Tibble Fork Reservoir
Address: Sandy, UT 84092
Tibble Fork is among the most popular outdoor photography locations in Utah — and for good reason. The mountain vistas here combined with the view of the reservoir are unmatched in quality and convenience. Keep in mind there is a $6 fee to park at the reservoir and you'll need cash to deposit on-site.
Utah Lake
Address: 4400 W Center St, Provo, UT
There are many great locations all around the lake. One of my favorites is the dock in Provo at Utah Lake State Park. From here you'll get a great view of the lake with the Wasatch Mountains in the background. This location does require an entrance fee. Also, depending on the time of year, you may need some serious bug spray!
Utah State Hospital Orchards
Address: 1300 East Center Street, Provo, UT 84601
The orchards at the Utah State Hospital are the perfect spring location for blossoms in Utah County. There is a photography fee required by the hospital for sessions here or at Castle Amphitheater (also on the property).
Young Living Lavender Fields
Address: 3700 Old Hwy 91, Mona, UT 84645
The lavender here is typically in bloom during June and July. Be advised, this location does require a reservation with Young Living.
Salt Lake County

Please note that weddings may occur on Fridays and Saturdays, which could affect our session; if needed, we can relocate to Memory Grove. The lighting here is excellent at any time of day. Sessions are available Monday-Wednesday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. until dusk or 7:00 p.m. Please note that dogs are not allowed.
GARDNER VILLAGE

At Gardner Village, you can enjoy a unique shooting experience that combines beautiful scenery with charming architecture. For a shooting fee of $50, you'll be welcomed by an inviting atmosphere featuring lush greenery, picturesque trees and shrubs, and beautifully preserved old buildings that reflect an old west motif. This enchanting location is perfect for any time of day and is suitable throughout the entire year. Plus, if you're bringing your furry friend along, pets are welcome as long as they’re on a leash. THE GREAT SALTAIR

The Great Saltair is about the closest Utah comes to a beach photoshoot location. With stunning sunsets and lots of open space, many of my clients love this place for formals and portraits.

Jordan Pines is one of prettiest mountain locations for photos all year round. This location features stunning mountain backdrops, evergreens, white snow in winter, and wildflowers during Spring and early Summer.
La Caille

La Caille is a beautiful venue perfect for outdoor photoshoots, featuring stunning landscaping, mature trees, and a French-inspired setting enhanced by accent lighting. You can book photoshoots during the following hours: Mondays from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Tuesdays to Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Sundays from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The venue fee is $30 per hour (subject to change). Please remember that any rescheduling requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Nestled in a tranquil setting, this serene space is adorned with beautiful monuments and soothing fountains. Millcreek Canyon is a canyon in the Wasatch Mountains and part of Millcreek City on the east side of the Salt Lake Valley, Utah. It is a popular recreation area both in the summer and in the winter.

Murray Park is a large open area with mature trees, a gazebo, and flowers. This is a great option if you're looking for beautiful scenery without leaving the valley.
Red Butte Garden

Temple Square is an iconic landmark in Utah. Home to large pioneer-era architecture and beautiful landscaping, this area in the heart of downtown SLC is very photographable. Keep in mind during much of the year you'll be competing with crowds of visitors.
SILVER LAKE AT BRIGHTON SKI RESORT

Silver Lake near Brighton Ski Resort is another great option for mountain photography with water, evergreens, and a boardwalk.
SUGAR HOUSE PARK

The best parking lot for Fabian Lakeside Pavilion, is the first lot past the pond. This location boasts stunning greenery, featuring a delightful blend of river, rocky terrains, and grassy areas. The vibrant fall leaves can be admired here until late November, making it a picturesque spot year-round. Dogs are welcome, and the scenery provides a fantastic backdrop for photography at any time of day. Overall, it's a beautiful and inviting place to enjoy nature's beauty!
TEMPLE ROCK QUARRY

The parking lot, which may fill up quickly; however, an alternative Park n' Ride lot is available across the street. The area features stunning granite boulders nestled in a dry riverbed—though it flows in spring. In the fall, the scrub oak displays vibrant colors, while tall grasses and shrubs add to the landscape. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the mountain and Little Cottonwood Canyon. Dogs are welcome, making it a great spot for pet owners. The best times for photography are during the morning or evening. Although the location is accessible year-round, the gate is closed in winter, necessitating nearby parking with a short walk to the shooting spots.
TROLLEY SQUARE

This former train depot renowned for its stunning brickwork and striking architecture. Before filming, we'll need to secure permission, but it's usually a straightforward process for groups of fewer than 10. The location boasts cool wrought iron textures that enhance its charm, making it a visually appealing setting for any project.

Tunnel Springs features a beautiful hill with views of mountains available in the background. The field of tall grass is green in Spring and parts of Summer and golden brown during other parts of the year.

MANTUA POPPY FIELDS

PINEVIEW RESERVOIR

BIRD REFUGE

The Bird Refuge in Layton is a photography location unlike anything around thanks to the preserved wetland area and unique architecture of the pavilion.
JENSEN NATURE PARK

This is a small, but cute photography location that's great for individual and couple portraits. You'll find tall grass, a fishing pond, and beautiful paths throughout the park.
J&J NURSERY AND GARDEN CENTER

This greenhouse is great for any type of portrait session and works during both winter and summer.
HOBBS RESERVOIR

ANTELOPE ISLAND

Photography at Antelope Island State Park will give you a variety of backdrops including the vast Great Salt Lake. This location does require an entrance fee. You'll also need to remember your mosquito repellant!
KAYSVILLE MAIN STREET

Try taking portraits near the old Kaysville Theater and surrounding buildings on Main Street! The entrances to Clytie Adam's Dance Studio are especially unique.
GAILY TRAIL

A great fall location, Gaily Trail in Fruit Heights is covered with leaves and shade. This is a great option if you need to do your fall shoot locally rather than in the mountains.
FARMINGTON STATION

A cute outdoor mall with strung lights, shops, and other unique features, Farmington Station is a popular location for various types of portraits and prom photos. A photography permit from the outlet is required before your shoot here.
LAGOON TRAIL

Also known as the Farmington Creek Trail, this walking path/bike trail makes for beautiful photos year-round. The trail is located directly behind Lagoon Amusement Park and if you walk far enough down you can even see some of Lagoon's bison and elk!
LAGOON AMUSEMENT PARK

Utah's very own amusement park! The park has all of the fair food and attractions you would expect, plus an entire pioneer village. Not only will you be guaranteed to have a fun time, but you'll come away with some very creative and cute photos! You will need to pay for admission into the park to take photos here.
CREEKSIDE PARK

This is a great park for photography in Bountiful. The location features a nice bridge and loads of trees to set as your backdrop for portraits.
MUELLER PARK

If you're looking for a close-by mountain location in Bountiful, Mueller Park may be the right choice for you. You'll find loads of green here during spring and colorful leaves during fall. Plus, there's always plenty of shade.
THE SPIRAL JETTY

This manmade rock formation in the Great Salt Lake is only accessible at certain times of the year. This could make for an interesting photoshoot location with a vast view of the lake as your backdrop and a unique, artsy foreground.

SNOW CANYON STATE PARK

Red sands, petrified red rock, and stunning formations? No, this isn't Zion or Bryce, this is Snow Canyon State Park. The red rust color works well for wedding or elopement photography as it contrasts perfectly with white wedding dresses. You can also find beautiful sage colors sprinkled throughout the area in the various plant life.
SAND HOLLOW STATE PARK

Where firey red rock meets vibrant, clear water, Sand Hollow State Park is another attractive southern Utah photography location. There is an entrance fee required before entering the park.
QUAIL CREEK STATE PARK
Address: 472 5300 W, Hurricane, UT 84737
Quail Creek works well as an alternative when Sand Hollow has filled up in the busier times of year. You'll still get beautiful red rock and angles with water. There is an entrance fee required at this location.
ZION NATIONAL PARK

Narrow canyons, and grand vistas — Zion National Park is the ultimate southern Utah location.
ZION PONDEROSA RANCH
Address: Twin Knolls Rd, Orderville, UT 84758
Located just east of Zion National Park, Zion Ponderosa Ranch is an ideal location for intimate wedding ceremonies and portraits. You'll get all of the same colors you'd expect in the Park without having to finish a several-mile-long hike in the Southern Utah heat.
Western Utah
BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS

There's no place quite like Utah's Salt Flats. This iconic landscape is famous for its dramatic white landscape and mountainous background. It's a beautiful location for bridal and formals, portraits, and really anything at sunset.
Eastern Utah
ARCHES NATIONAL PARK
Located: Moab, UT 84532
Whether you take photos at one of the famous arches or just pull over on the side of the road, you can't go wrong in this national park. You will need to pay the entrance fee to take photos inside the park.
